MAIN HIGHWAYS FUND.

NOT TO BE ABOLISHED. Advice was received by the Manawatu County Council yesterday from the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) to the effect that the Government had decided not to abolish the special main highways account and that the representations of the Manawatu County Council, that all special motor taxation should be paid into that account, had been noted for consideration. “Quite the usual Government reply • commented the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) when the letter was read. No discussion was forthcoming, the council passing to the consideration of other business.
