ESCAPE FROM FLAMES.

WARNED BY WHINING OF DOG. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 22. Warned by the whining of a dog, Mr J. R. Hansen’s household at Okato was awakened to find the house in flames. They had only time to snatch bedclothes and leave the fiercely burning building. Fire also swept several farm buildings. Mr Hansen was returning from telephoning the insurance company, which held a policy for £SOO, when the motor car ran over the dog and killed it. Mr Hansen recently voluntarily reduced the insurance on the furniture.
