ANGLER’S EXPERIENCE
FISH ESCAPES WITH ROD. TE AROHA, Dec. 23. While fishing on Lake Rotorua, Mr H. Hinder, of Te Aroha, had a novel, if unfortunate, experience. With several friends Mr Hinder had been engaged most of the morning fishing with indifferent luck and was about to depart. Releasing his rod, Mr Hinder laid it for a moment against the side of the boat while he gathered his gear together. No sooner had lie done this when the fly, which was hanging in the water was seized by a large fish, which made off at a great rate. The rod was jerked overboard and swiftly followed the fish across the lake. Although followed for a distance by the boat, the fish and rod outpaced all pursuit and the chase had to be abandoned. For some time after tho fish could be seen breaking water, but at length it disappeared. Mr Hinder’s rod was a very valuable one of the split cane variety and was equipped with a kingfisher line.
