BAINESSE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) BAINESSE, July 28. A successful concert and dance was held in the Bainesse School, under the auspices of the School Committee and the Bainesse branch of the Labour Party. Mr C. L. Hunter, M.P., and Mrs Hunter were present. The programme was arranged by Messrs Chapman, of Palmerston North, and these popular comedians were much enjoyed, whilst the dancing by pupils of Miss June Soott was well executed. The programme was Community singing, conducted by Chapman Bros.; tap dance, Joy Burrell; duet, Chapman Bros., mouth organ solo,, Mr M. Marvin'; Russian dance, Miss Nell Watson; tap dance, Miss Jones; skipping- dance, Miss Watson ; ' accompanist, .Mr Frank .McLachlan. Dancing fol-lowed,--the music being supplied by Mrs Whitehead, while Mr L. Beard acted as M.C.; The Bainesse branch of the Labour Party held its monthly meeting with a good attendance, the chair being taken by Mr M. J. Ryan. Mr E. Bowater, the organiser for the electorate, and Mr D. Sanson, president of the Sandon branch, were also present. It was decided In send a donation to the £25.000 appeal fund. Mr Bowater outlined the arrangements mnde for a speaking tour of Mr Hunter, M.P. A discussion look place on such matters as mortgage legislation and the placing of sustenance men. Mr Bowater satisfactorily answered a number .of questions on legislation, both intended and already in operation. Mr and Mrs C. Adin, formerly of Koputaroa, have taken up their residence in Bainesse. Mr and Mrs - D. Young, of Parapnraurnu, were visitors to Bainesse recently, being the guests of Mr and Mrs S. C. Buchanan. Miss Betty Ryan is on a holiday visit to Petone.
