PAYNTER SETS RECORDS.
Received July 31, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, July 30. There were two outstanding sepres in the County cricket matches just finished. Lancashire made 640 for eight wickets and Hampshire 509, both on the first day. Paynter’s 322 for Lancashire was scored in 800 minutes and included three sixers and 39 fours. He broke several records. It was his second century before lunch this season and his fifth century for the season. It is the highest score ever made by a Lancashire professional. He broke yictor Trumper’s 1899 record for the highest score against Sussex*. The 316 of R. H. Moore, Hamp shire’s captain, against Warwick is a Hampshire record. Details; — , _ , Essex v. Parks 98) ■ they followed on, making 290 (Cox 115). Lancashire won by an innings and five runs. Middlesex v. Worcester. —Middlesex First innings, 327 (Hendron 87). Worcester: First innings, 121 (Gray 5 for 38, Smitho for 52); they followed on, making 205. Middlesex won by an innings and one run. Gloucester v. Glamorgan.—Gloucester: First innings, 319 (Hammond 121); second innings, 2 for 162 declared (Hammond 63). Glamorgan: First innings, 135 (Goddard 5 for 58) ; second innings, 91 (Goddard 8 for 41). Gloucester won by 255 runs. Hampshire v. Warwick. —Hampshire: First innings, 509 (Moore 316). Warwick: First innings, 185 (Herman 5 for 42) ; they followed on, making 181 (Creese 8 for 85). Hampshire won by an innings and 143 rails. Northants v. Somerset.—Northants: First innings, 158; second innings, 160. Somerset: First innings, 320 (F. Lee 115). Somerset won by an innings and two runs. Kent v. Notts.—Kent: First innings, 5 for 467 declared (Ames 98, Sunnocks 162, Todd not out 100). Notts: First
innings, 190 (Keeton not out 99; Wright 6 for 47) ; they followed on. losing 9 for 468 (HardstafF 146, Gunn 135). Kent won on the first inning*.
