IRISH THOROUGHBRED.
SOUTH AFRICAN WIN. The Durban July Handicap, run in South Africa a few weeks ago, and the principal race of tho season, reflected much credit on tho quality of the Irish thoroughbred. The winner, Ballyjamesduff, whom cables earlier recorded as upsetting a huge plunge by defeating his stablcmate, Dennis Blink, tho latter, and the fourth horse, Soltava, wero all Irish bred. Ballyjamesduff, by Boorman from Ballyhornan, was bred by Major D. Dixon, Who also bred Over Coat, among other good gallopers. Dennis Blink, by Soldennis from Blink Girl, was a good winner in England last year, and is a brother to that great galloper Denis Boy, who, trained by Frank McGrath at Sydney won tho Caulfield Cup, Cantala Stakes, and the Metropolitan. Ballyjamesduff must bo classed as a bargain, for tho Durban Handicap was worth £6OOO, and the winner was sent to South Africa at a landed, cost of £IOOO.
