MUNICIPAL BAND.

The Feilding Municipal Band held a quartette and solo competition on Saturday evening in the Oddfellows’ Hull. There was a good attendance of supporters, and Mr A. Ramsey, conductor of the Queen Alexandra Band, Wanganui, was the adjudicator. The competition was conducted under the supervision of Messrs J. L. Fleetwood and E. A. Garlick. The accompanists were Mrs A. Belk, Miss Smith and Mr A. Feeney, A.L.C.M. The competitors were trained by the conductor, Mr J. L. Fleetwood, and the adjudicator commented very favourably upon the high standard of music rendered by the boy soloists. He said that he had had a hard task in making his awards. The successful competitors were :

Quartettes. —W. Lowe, B. Cummings, E. A. Garlick and W. Wilkinson, “Remembrance,” 95 points, 1; G. Smith, J. Johnson, L. Knowles, and L. Simson, “Tanhauser,” 86 points, 2; W. Stringer, J. Staples, T. Austen and B. Cummings, “Twilight,” 85 points, 3. Boys’ solo: F. Hayes, “The Victor” (bass), 87 points, 1; H. Burt (cornet), 86 points, 2; G. Grant and N. Hayes, 85 points, equal, 3. Adults’ solo: W. Lowo (cornet), “Silver Threads,” 88 points, 1; T. Austen (euphonium), “Old Folks at Home,” 87 points, 2; G. Smith (trombone), “Annabell,” and T. Cornwell (cornet), “At Sunset,” 86 points, equal, 3.
