BUILDING PERMITS.
EXPANSION OF CITY. £18,987 FOR JULY. The building permits issued by the Palmerston North City Council in July had an aggregate value of £18,987. Of that sum £13,900 was accounted for by one job—the additions to the civil branch of the Public Works Department’s buildings in Cook Street. In the corresponding month of last year the aggregate value of the permits issued was £26,542, and in that figure were included the permits for five big buildings. Permits for the erection of three new dwelling houses were issued in July of this year, totalling £2598, while alterations and additions to dwelling houses accounted for another £1822. The erection of six new garages was authorised, those being estimated to cost £l6l. Two new business premises are proposed and the permits issued represent a value for both of £275. There were also issued permits for three alterations and, additions to business premises, providing a further £231, making a total, without the Public Works Department’* programme, of £SOS7.
