AUCKLAND MARKETS FIRMER. AUCKLAND, Aug. 3. A firming in potatoes and onions has been the chief feature of the local grain and produce markets since last week. The southern market firmed in consequence of a further shipment of potatoes to South America having been arranged, and this has been reflected locally in an advance of 5s a. ton. Supplies of onions, both southern a.nd Pukekohe, are becoming scarce, and as a consequence a further advance in the price lias taken place. A good proportion of the offerings now available i’ of poor quality. However, there should be a welcome improvement, both as to quality and price before the end of the month, as the Wnnganella, duo here on August 20, will bring the first shipment arranged by the Government. These are being quoted to arrive at 12s per 1001 b. Bag. The pollard position continues extremely difficult. Supplies from the local mills are not nearly enough for requirements, and merchants report a further firming in the Australian position. The local price has been advanced 5s a ton. Bran is in' steady demand at, late rates. Wheat prices are unchanged at 75.2 d to 7s 3d per hushcl. An Australian shipment has heer. arranged by the Government Wheat Committee to arrive about August 20. and it will sell at the same prices ai. the last shipmeilt. • .
