RURAL RAKINGS.

Red Poll cattle from the King’s .Sandringham herd gained five awards at the Royal Norfolk Show at Fokcniinm. An interesting, address, entitled ‘‘Pulpy Kiclnov Diseases .in -Lambs f and Kindred Diseases .in Sheep,” was given by Mr E. Elnhick. Government veterinarian, iat Pahiatna, yesterday afternoon. 'Mr Elphick stated that pulpy kidney disease in lambs has been very prevalent, hi the South Island,' but the dcatll rat ® had been reduced amazingly by the method now being adopted and favoured by his department to combat the disease. The method was first used in 1935 with good, results. Strango to say, the disease was far more prevalent in the South Island than in the North. The ewes were vaccinated with a preparation made up by the Government Veterinary Department at Wallar.ovillo and six weeks before the sheep lambed the vaecino was injected by means of a hypo- ■ dermic syringe into its skin, This mothod had reduced the loss of lambs and now was recognised by the authorities as an excellent one.
