ASHHURST.
RIFLE ASSOCIATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Aug. 4. The fourth annual report of the Alana-watu-ohangina Rifle Association, to be presented at the annual meeting this week, states: —“The association commenced the season with a small credit balance, from which score cards and sundries were procured. 'I he annual teams shoot for tho Greer Shield and championship aggregate was held on Labour Day, and a record attendance of eleven teams fired for the shield, and 62 competitors shot for the championship. The handicap sweepstake matches, which were conducted on the self-handicap system, did not lake on as well as was expected, only 39 competitors taking part, and the receipts did not quite cover the expenditure for tho meeting; a different method will be necessary for the coming meeting. For the shield, Cheltenham No. 1 proved the winners with the record score of 493. In tho championship, Rifleman R, P. Galley was successful with a record score of 102, this being a record for the Ashhurst range ; Rifleman Catlev won the Weston Smith Cup. The balancesheet for the meeting discloses a loss of 11s Id.- which must be considered fortunate. The association balance-sheet shows over the year’s working a credit balance of £2 9s 2d, and should a successful meting be held this year a healthier financial position should be tho result.”
