THE GRENADIER GUARDS.
The Ist Regiment of British Household Infantry — known generally as the Grenadier Guards — has a history of more than two centuries. It has been the nucleus of the army which has placed on its standard " Blenheim " and " Waterloo " and lias been for many years the oldest body of its kind m the world. While m the changes of human things ita noblest and most renowned antagonists, the Maison dv Eoi, the Gardes Franoaises, and, chief of all, the Old Guard of Napoleon, have become mere traditions and shadows, it still flourishes m undecaying vigo\*, and links the glories of the present with the past,
