Jaure's intended speech, which declares that French Socialists were anxious for workers throughout the world to co-operate for peace, and L hence they; repudiate all idea of military revenge against Germany. The bulk of 'Frenchmen always regarded the Franco- . jßosaian Alliance as purely defensive, •;■. M. Jaurea said that unfortunately the French.reactipnories while in the ascen : dant subserviently attaohed France's policy to Russia's as a car to a balloon. They cooperated with Germany in the Shimqnpseki Treaty which prepared the ~inj-'[tfn Russian scheming and greed. -M. Jaures proceeds to eulogise policy since 1900 in enlarging iher circle of friendships. Ho recaliß his advice in favour of the entente with Germany, and warmly supports the Anglo French agreement. He declares the latter was not aimed at Germany, though if an attempt were made to entangle Frenchmen in any action hostile 'to Britain, French Socialists tvould resist to the last breath.
