From Our Own Correspondent,

There was an excellent attendance at tho residence of Mr. and Mrs. Hedley Wilton on Wednesday afternoon, when a garden party was held to raise funds for tho renovating of tho Rangiotu Church. A produce stall in charge of Mr's. J. Andrew did brisk business, being sold out in record time. Tho games and competitions were in charge of Mesdames Renton and Beard, and the results were as follow: —Chainstepping, Mrs. 11. Pearce; lucky spot, Mrs. {Shaw; ping-pong, Mr. M. Toogood. Tenni-quoits were in chargo of the Misses Snell and Renton and were well patronised. A competition for tho best collection of home-made jsweets was won by Miss Bennett, of Kopanc. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the following ladies: —Mesdames Tennant, AVilton, Graham, Robertson, Gimblctt and a bevy of young helpers. At the conclusion of tho gathering, Mr. Berry presented tho prizes and in his usual happy vein thanked those present for their attendance and support. It is understood that the church funds will benefit to tho extent of over £lO as tho result of this special effort. Tho usual fortnightly meeting of the Rangiotu Lodge was held on Monday evening, a large number of members being present. Bro. W. Gimblett presided. After the usual business had been transacted it was decided to hold the Christmas tree function for the children on December 21st. The holding of a monster tug-of-war contest early in the New Year was discussed, and a committee was set up to go into the matter further. Nino pupils from the local school journeyed to Longburn on Tuesday to sit for tho proficiency examination. The results will not be known until the 14th inst. _ At tho monthly meeting of the Rangiotu Dairy Co. on Wednesday it was decided to pay out lOd per pound for butter-fat for the month of November. Harvesting is in full swing throughout the district. Crops in tho main are verv good. Tho bronzo beetle is playing liavoe with the orchards in the district, and in many cases vegetable gardens have been ravaged by this pest.
