From Our Own Correspondent. Vital Statistics, The vital statistics for Foxton for the month of September, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year shown in parentheses, are as follow: — Births 3 (6), deaths 2 (1), marriages 1 (2), Maori births 6 (3), Maori deaths nil (1). The figures for the quarter ending September, 1933, are as follow, the figures for the corresponding quarter of last year being given in parentheses:—Births 10 (18), deaths G (5), marriages 2 (7), Maori births 7 (8), Maori deaths 2 (4). The Weather. Rain fell locally on nine days during the month of September, the total fall recorded being 2.84 inches. The maximum fall occurred on Wednesday the 20th, when .9 of an inch was recorded. The hottest day during the month was Wednesday the 20th, with a temperature of 60 degrees, while the coldest day was Friday the 15th, when the thermometer registered 45 degrees. Shipping, After being delayed in the river for 24 hours owing to the poor tides, the m.v. Foxton reached the wharf on Friday evening. The discharging of the vessel's cargo was commenced at G p.tn. and was completed during the night, the Foxton sailing again for Dunedin direct early on Saturday morning. Cargo discharging operations on the m.v. Huanui were commenced on Saturday morning and were completed yesterday, the Huanui sailing last evening for Wellington. Well-known Citizen Passes.

“The late Mr. Thomas Wanklyn, whose death occurred suddenly on Thursday, was well known locally, having resided in Foxton for many years. Deceased, who was born at Ross, Hertfordshire, England, was at one time licensee of the Manawatu hotel. Subsequently he was for some years employed on the waterfront by Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., as their labour foreman and later still worked in that company's wool and hemp grading store. The late Mr. Wanklyn was always keenly intersted in horse racing and at one period of his residence in Foxton was in the game as an ownertrainer. Deceased leaves a grown-up family of thi ee sons and three daughters, Messrs Endel (Palmerston North), Cyril (Wanganui), Stanley (Inglewood), Mesdames R. Moore (Foxton), H. Wills (Eltham) and Miss Wanklyn (Foxton). Mrs. Wanklyn predeceased tier husband several years ago. Government Collects.

As the result of the race meeting held at Foxton on Saturday, the funds of the Government will benefit to the extent of £625 11s 4d. This amount is made up of taxes payable by the Foxton Racing Club as follow: —Stakes tax £2B 15s, totalisator tax £277 4s lOd, dividend tax £302 18s, amusement tax £l6 13s 6d. Successful Dance. A successful dance was held under the auspices of the Foxton Silver Band on Saturday evening when there was a large number of dancers present. Excellent music was supplied by the Foxton Silver Band and extras by Mr. T. East, and a thoroughly happy evening was spent with old-time and modern dancing. The duties of M.’sC. were ably carried out by Messds S. E. Cowley and E. Christensen. A ladies’ committee provided supper and the function was brought to a close at midnight. Much favourable comment was passed upon the fine quality of the music supplied by the band, and also upon the excellent progress it had made in a short period, thanks to the conductorship of Mr. C. Thomas, late of the Palmerston North City Silver Band. As a result of the function the funds of the band will beneflt by an. appreciable amount.
