Feilding Borough Valuations
adjustment proposals. Yesterday the Mayor of Feilding, Mr. C. E. Taylor, accompanied by Cr. E. Fair and the Town Clork, Mr. N. C. Harding, proceeded to Wellington to interview tho Valuer-General, Mr. Brook, on the subject of Feilding borough valuation adjustments. This action followed on the decisions arrived at by tho Borough Council at its last meeting, when it was agreed that sorno effort should be made in the direction of - extending to those properties which had not been subjected to a revaluation since the last valuation of tho borough and whoso owners had not taken advantage of sections 45 or 50 of the Valuation of Land Act. The council decided that as a general revaluation. was not likely to be obtained, it should cither request tho ValuerGeneral to act under the provisions of section 12 of the Valuation of Land Act which enabled tho Valuer-General of his own motion to make adjustments bv giving revaluations or recommend that the owners of the properties expected avail themselves of sections 45 and 40 of tho Act.
The Mayor placed the whole position before Air. Brook, who at tho outset said that a general revaluation of the borough was not advisable at the present time and pointed out that section 12 of the Act could only bo used with the permission of the Minister and it was very rarely utilised. He agreed that the proposals of the Mayor were to be commended and intimated that ho was entirely sympathetic with the suggestions which tho borough had offered and agreed that something was necessary to bring about a more equitable condition of affairs.
The Mayor was informed that the Department had in preparation proposals for amending legislation which would give effect, to the desires of the Feilding Borough Council and it was hoped that this legislation would be dealt with this session. In tho event of delay Air. Taylor was given the assurance of the Valuer-General that something would be done in time to enable valuation adjustments in the direction desired by Feilding made before the commencement of the next rating year.
Air. Taylor considered the interview highly satisfactory and stated that the council would avail itself of again meeting the Valuer-General to pursue the question further if necessary.
