Power Board Rate
FEILDING’S POSITION. During their visit to Wellington yesterday the Mayor, Mr. C. E. Taylor, Cr. E. Fair and the Town Clerk, Air. N. C. Harding, waited on the Audit Department with regard to the payment of (he Feilding Borough Council of the Power Board rate out of general revenue. As the cost of sending out separate rate demands was prohibitive considering the small amount of rate te be collected, the council proposed to pay the sum out of its general revenue and wished to ascertain whether this was in order. The position was fully considered and the Audit Department
agreed that the collection of this rate should be placed on the samo basis of collection as Hospital. Board levies which permitted the local body tho option of either striking a rate or paying the levy out of revenue. The matter is to be taken, up further by the council with tho Department and the Minister of Internal Affairs.
It is considered likely that amending legislation will be necessary to give effect to the suggestion of the Feilding Borough Council.
