Bulls
From Our Own Correspondent Bowls and Croquet Begin.
The Bulls Bowling- and Croquet Club;, held their official opening day on Wednesday afternoon when a crowd of. 150 were present. The weather was perfect, and with the greens in splendid condition, everyone had a most enjoyable afternoon. Visitors were present from Marton, Feilding, Palmerston North, Wooclville and Wanganui. Mr. J. H. Perrett, president, welcomed all the visitors, and hoped that everyone would enjoy themselves. Jtle read an apology from Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the Manawatu Centre, and took advantage of the occasion to invest Mr. John Ellery, senr., with the gold badge of membership, paying a tribute to the latter for his long and valued association with the club. He also thanked members of the Ladies’ Croquet Club for again providing tea for the bowlers and assisting with the annual ball. The speaker then called upon Mrs. Ferret to throw up the first kitty, and Mr. W. A. Doughty, patron ol the Croquet Club, to make the first hoop. Results of the bowling are as follow: Marton: Barton, Ferens, Low, Shine (s) IS v. Bulls: Tricker, Price, Ransom, Drew (s) 37. Woodville: Offwood, Smith, Galbraith, Forbes (s> .17 v. Bulls: Ellery, Shadrup, Brightwell, Stevens (s) 27.
Takuro: Christensen, Burnett, E. Smith, A. Smith (s) 17 v. Hunterville: Abel, AV. Wilson, Petrie, J. AVilson (s) 15. Oroua: Alsop, Jeff, Pearce, Stevenson (s) 8 v. Bulls: Simpson, AA'ilks, Croucher, Ingram (s) 28. Palmerston North: Croucher, AVilkinson, Wilson, Baton (s) 34 v. Bulls: Holland, Ede, Goebel, Perrett (s) 15. St. John's: Harris, Gilbertson, Smith, Harris (s) 24 v. Terrace End: Locke, Handy, Bee, Skinner (s) 15. Feilding: Dewe, Jones, AVay, AVilliamson (s) 22 v. Bulls: Armstrong, Radd, 11. Results of competitions on the croquet green were as follow: —French: Mrs. F. AVilliams (Marton); ladder: Miss Strawbridge (Marton); golf: Mrs. Read (Bulls). The ladies of the Croquet Club dispensed afternoon tea to over 200 visitors, for which they are to be warmly commended. Everything went off smoothly, and the day was a memorable one in the history of bowls and croquet in Bulls. Cricket Club. On Saturday the Bulls Cricket Club will play a home match against Makowhai Camp. The Bulls team will be F. A. Holland, H. H. L. Holland, L. Meads, F. Stack, AV. Hart, H. Last-Harris, E. Miller, S. Reeves, T. Edwards, T. Prichard and D. M. O’Connell. Rangitikei Racing Club.
A meeting of the committee of the Rangitikei Racing Club was held on Monday last under the chairmanship of Mr. J. H. Perrett. Messrs D. Lundy and Ken AVilson were elected members. The following committees were elected for the ensuing year:—Grounds, Messrs J. ri. Whisker, J. Tricker, F. O. Bailey, J. E. AValker and D. A\ r . AVilson; finance, Messrs J. F. McKelvie, J. H. Perrett, G. H. Archer and R. Mackay. The course committee reported as follows: Portion of the course which was rather bare of grass has been sown with chewings fescue and top-dressed. The grass will be cut next week. The lambing on the farm resulted in 300 per cent, of lambs which are in particularly good condition. The first draft will be sent away at the end of November.
