From Our Own Correspondent. A very pleasant function in the lorn of a surprise party was tendered Atiss Gracey on the occasion of her pending departure for the South Island. The function, which was organised by sirs. A. V. Alatthews, took place at the residence of Airs. AV. iVatzkc. There were over 50 friends present and tile evening was pleasantly passed with dancing, cards and games. During tho evening items were rendered as follow: —Solo, Aliss R. Freeklington; duet, Atiss R. Freckllngton and Air. .1. Freeklington; piano duet, Airs. H. Redpath and Airs. L. Koberstein; recitation, Aliss a. wapstick; instrumental duet, Miss E. Gloyn and Air. A. Gloyn. Aiusic for the dancing was supplied by Aliss Gracey, Aliss It. Freeklington, Alessrs A. _ Gloyn, H. McKinnon and F. L. McKinnon. _ A dainty supper was served, after which Air. Ben Freeklington, on behalf , ol' those present, presented Aliss Gracey wnn a black and white crystal necklet. In doing so he expressed regret at Aliss i Gracey’s departure and wished her a happy and prosperous future in her new surroundings. Tho guest of the evening was accorded musical honours and after being presented with a beautiful bouquet from Ah's. A. Pedersen, suitably replied. Competitions were won by Atiss N. Freeklington and Air. E. Robinson, while the spot waltz was won by Aliss Gloyn and Atr. A. Smith. The competitor winning most card games was Air. AV. Robinson.
