Meeting of Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors
Tho monthly meeting of the board of directors of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. was held in tho ciubrooms, Broadway, yesterday, Miss McLagan in the chair. Also present were: Mesdames Barnett, Sinclair, Phillips, Pointon, Griggs, Mouldcy, Grcig, Watchorn, Bicrrc, Stevens, Misses Forrest, Scotter, and the general secretary, Miss Ashton. Apologies were received from Mrs Oliver, Misses Kelsey and Cameron.
A report from the house and finance committeo was read by Mrs Barnett, and one from the girls’ work committee by Mrs Stevens. There had been 37 casuals at tho hostel during tho month. Among the correspondence read was an interesting letter from Miss Jean Begg, of the Indian Y.W.C.A. national staff.
The secretary reported on the work of the month—on the programme, of Christmas gift-making by the senior club; on the health programme project th 6 Girl Citizens were working on, and on the formation of tho Women’s Bound Table Club. During the month there had been two bridge parties given for funds, one at which Mrs W. J. Phillips was hostess and the other which had been organised by the girls’ work committee. A successful jumble sale had also been held.
There had been a scarcity of girls registering with tho Friendly Service Bureau, the secretary on several occasions having no one to send to positions.
Mrs Stevens, Mrs Griggs and Miss Scottor were appointee}, the visiting committee for the mouth. During a break in the business of the afternoon tea was served.
