A. representative committee was chosen from various churches and other organisations, consisting of Miss Hustwiok,. Thetford, Mum-o and Messrs Scott, Wallace,^ Taylor, F. Taylor, Allison, Forbes Keir, Upton and Olsen with MrAnsley us chairman and Miss Humphreyas secretary. It was decided to hold a meeting next Sunday at 8.15 p.m. on the^ wharf when one or two short addresses will be given, with plenty of singing— Sankey's .hymn-books to be used. The committee also decided to holdj a social evening and to invite all sailors in port, so that they -might have a pleasant and' a profitable time when they were" ashore. Hitherto no definite effort hasbeen made for the benefit of the. sailors visiting this port, but the amount of shipping now warrants something beingr done, and this committee propose do'ingr everything in their power to makeJack's off-time ashore as pleasant aspassible. , . .-.,-.
