No. 116.—Petition of Hannah Cassin. Petitionee states that she has been wrongfully excluded from lists of owners of lands in th e Eohepotae, and that she is now landless. She prays that her name may be inserted in the titl e of all the land in which her mother was an owner, or that other relief may be granted. I am directed to report that the Committee find the petitioner has a just claim to consideration, and they recommend that Government should introduce the necessary legislation to enable her name to be inserted into the title of the land in question. 9th September, 1896.

No. 187.—Petition of Te Hueinui Tukapua (No. 1). Petitioner • alleges that his name has been wrongfully struck out of the list of owners of the Waimarino Block. He prays for restitution. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 9th September, 1896.

No. 188.—Petition of Wi Pere. Petitioner states that, in consequence of certain lists having been lost by the Native Land Court, he and others have been omitted from ownership of part of Kopa-a-Tauaki Block. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 9th September, 1896.

No. 247.—Petition of Hieaani Nopbea and 4 Others. Petitioners allege that in 1871 the Native Land Court awarded 8,000 acres in Mangaorapa to Atareta Taupe and her party, but since then, through a side-issue, the quantity has been wrongfully reduced to 5,000 acres. They, as successors to Atareta Taupe, pray that the matter may be rectified. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend this petition be referred to the Government for inquiry, and if it is found that the allegations contained therein are correct, then steps should be taken to rectify the grievance in the manner suggested by the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court in his report to the Committee on the subject. 11th September, 1896.
