No. 234.—Petition of Hue te Huei. Petitionee prays that the Eangitoto-Tuhua Block be not disturbed by purchase, survey, or other claim. I am directed to report that, as the land is still Native land, and as no application has been made to bring it before the Native Land Court, the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 15th September, 1896.

No. 267.—Petition of Nepia te Atu and 51 Others. Petitioners pray for a rehearing in regard to Te Arai-Matawai Block. I am directed to report that the Committee are of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government, with the recommendation that legislation be provided to meet this and all similar cases. 15th September, 1896.

No. 268.—Petition of Maeaea te Awaiti and Another. Petitioneks pray for a rehearing in regard to Porongahau Nos. 1 and 2 and Mangaorapa Blocks, Hawke's Bay. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 15th September, 1896.

No. 303.—Petition of Saeah Thorns. Petitionee prays for restitution of certain lands set apart by the Ngatitoa Tribe for the benefit of her grandmother, Te Ua (the first wife of Joseph Thorns), and her descendants, the said lands having wrongfully passed into possession of the family of Joseph Thorns by a second (European) wife. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend this petition be referred to the Government in order that the petitioner's case may be dealt with by the Commissioners appointed to attend to matters relating to the landless Natives of the South Island. 15th September, 1896.
