Tenders were called for new drains and outbuildings. All were considered too high, and declined. Courthouses. Stratford. —Small contracts for painting, repairs, and electric lighting have been carried out during the year. Opunake. —A contract has been let for the erection of a Courthouse. Wangamti. —Alterations have been made in the Sheriff's office. The Venetian blinds have been put in repair and other blinds fixed. Mangaweka. —A Courthouse has been built. Feilding. —A small contract for paths and drains has been completed. Palmerston North. —A contract has been completed for painting the exterior of the Courthouse. Waipawa. —A contract has just been finished for repairs to and painting the Courthouse. Hastings. —The roof of the Courthouse has been repaired. Napier. —The gaol drains have been connected with the town drainage and improved sanitary fittings provided ; sundry repairs have been done. Police-stations. Mokau. —A stable has been erected at the police-station. New Plymouth. —Tenders sent in for the erection of a sergeant's residence at the policestation were all declined. Plans have been prepared for the erection of a suitable building on another site. Inglewood. —A contract for alterations, additions, and repairs to the police-station has been carried out during the year. Stratford. —A contract for painting the police-station has been let, and the work is progressing slowly on account of the weather. Eltham. —An office has been added to the police buildings. Manaia. —A lock-up has been erected. Haivera.- —A contract for the erection of a four-cell lock-up has been let and is nearly completed. Patea. —It has been decided to erect a new building instead of shifting the Manutahi Policestation to Patea as an addition to the existing buildings. Waverley. —A contract for alterations and additions to the police-station has been finished. Marton. —A contract for additions to and painting the police-station buildings has been finished. » Feilding. —Contracts for the erection of a constable's residence, a two-cell lock-up, and additions to office have been completed. Dannevirke. —Some drainage and other minor works have been carried out at the policestation. Waipawa. —-A contract for the erection of a police residence has been let, and fair progress is being made. Clive. —A contract for alterations, additions, and repairs to the police buildings has just been completed. Waitara. —A contract is being prepared for additions, repairs, and painting of the policestation. Post- and Telegraph-offices. Tarawera. —A contract has been let for the erection of a lineman's residence. Napier. —The roof of the post-office has been repaired, and concrete has been substituted for wood in the floors of the outbuildings. Inglewood. —A contract has been let for the erection of post-and-telegraph offices in brick, and the work has been started, but is delayed by scarcity of materials. Stratford. —A small contract for repairing and painting the post-office has been let. Opunake. —A contract let for the erection of a post-office in brick has made slow progress, owing to the difficulty experienced in getting bricks. Wanganui. —A contract for additions to the Customhouse to give accommodation required by the Stock and Lands Departments is now approaching completion. A contract for the erection of a new post-office in brick is in progress. Native Schools. Te Harato. —A combined school and residence has been erected. Koroniti. —A contract for additions has been completed. Pariroa. —Alternative tenders for the removal of old buildings from Mawhitiwhiti to Pariroa, and for the erection of new buildings at Pariroa, were received, but no contract has yet been entered into.
