SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES, 1944-45

MENTAL HOSPITALS DEPARTMENT

(a) Increased establishment has been authorized to provide extra night staff and thus abolish the present practice of staff " sleeping-in." An additional engine-driver has been appointed at Tokanui. The additional amount for allowances to officers is due to the appointment of an extra Deputy Medical Superintendent. (b) Subsidy to Christchurch Tramway Board for bus service to Templeton Farm. (c) it is unlikely that all the extra staff authorized to provide extra night staff will be available. Overtime will therefore be necessary to maintain this extra service. £44,000 provided on main estimates. (d) An additional expenditure 011 rations is required to provide an improved dietary for patients. The change in method of supply of meat at Seacliff Mental Hospital will also necessitate increased expenditure under this item. £97,598 provided on main estimates.
